Can You Buy Ground Coffee With EBT?

A reader asked me this question last week so I looked into it. SNAP benefits help make this necessity accessible. Let me explain what coffee products you can purchase with your EBT card.

šŸ›’ EBT (or SNAP) is a government program providing food assistance to low-income households through a special debit card that reloads monthly with benefits.

ā˜• Good news, ground coffee, coffee beans, instant coffee, and coffee bags ARE eligible for purchase with your EBT card.

āŒ Hot prepared coffee (like your favorite Starbucks latte) cannot be purchased with EBT since hot foods at point of sale are excluded from the program.

🧊 Cold, pre-packaged coffee drinks are typically EBT-eligible as long as they're purchased from approved retailers like grocery stores.

šŸ„› Coffee creamers (both liquid and powder) are considered food items and can be purchased with your EBT benefits to make your morning brew perfect!
